Winter 2022
My dear Friends
After the winter snows of Toronto, and all my activities there, I finally got a break in Malta, a place you know how much I love. Like the last time, I was blessed with being able to stay with the wonderful family who had offered me hospitality last time in 2019. But this time I stayed for ten days, and they showered me with love and food. Christina, mother of the family, made the most glorious meals, while Maria, her daughter, took the greatest care of me too. Their house is really beautiful, with a long sweeping entrance, from which there are side rooms decorated with lovely things too.
I had a spacious room on the top floor, with a balcony looking out onto the other mediterranean houses. At night, the sky was incredibly blue, with one lone star. Shining above, as my guiding star. The hallway upstairs too is spacious.
We had many beautiful expeditions to the Mediterranean, including Sliema. I had a meeting in Floriana, to discuss my Project and that went very well. The weather was hot and the mosquitoes were very active. The little town of Zabbar was beautiful, with its huge and beautiful church, and I attended Mass there every few days. One highlight was visiting the fishing village of Marsaskala with the stunning Church of St Anne-it happened to be Mission Sunday, and I was able to share what I was doing with Fr Luke, who showered me with little gifts from the Church.
I made a special trip to see a Sister running the little Franciscan community in Balzan, a quiet town, about 40 minutes drive from where I was staying. I prayed with the Sisters and was made to feel very welcome. I was very fortunate to have the services of Vincent, a friendly 70 year old taxi driver I had met on a previous visit, who made sure I got everywhere I needed to!
Now a concert is coming up in Norfolk in February, after our annual celebration at the Jewish new year for Trees, and a trip to Germany!
